Bossy Blocks 2.0: the Daily Challenge
Version 2.0 adds the biggest new way to play since the game began: the Daily Challenge. Every day there’s a single new wave, the same for everyone. How few turns can you clear it in? When you’re done, see how your friends did.
How it works #
A daily is a single wave, with every block on the board from the start. The blocks still advance each turn, but no new rows arrive, so it’s a race: break every block before one reaches the bottom, in as few turns as you can.
- One attempt a day. Read the day’s hint, look over your starting hand, and pick two upgrades from a short offer. Once you start, that’s your run for the day.
- Par and stars. Every board has a par, shown before you start and kept on screen the whole run. Clear it at par or better for three stars, within two turns of par for two, and any clear earns one.
- Gentle Monday, brutal Sunday. The board gets tougher as the week goes on. Monday is a warm-up. Sunday is not.
- Something different each day. Some boards come with a boss guarding them, some bury the cards deep, some punish you for breaking blocks in the wrong order. The hint on the home screen tells you what you’re walking into.
- Streaks and stats. Keep your streak going, and watch your record build up on the results chart.
- Practice. Once your attempt is in, you can replay the board as often as you like to find a better line. Practice never changes your result: what you did on the first try is what counts.
Why we think you’ll like it #
It fits in a coffee break. The endless game is built for long runs, where you nurse a deck and a ball pool for dozens of waves. A daily is over in a handful of turns. It’s become the first thing we play every morning.
Every turn counts. In the endless game you face wave after wave, and the question is how long you can survive. A daily is one wave, and the question is how fast you can clear it. That changes how you play: which block opens up a lane for the next turn, whether to spend a card now or hold it, and which upgrades suit this particular board. It plays more like a puzzle than a marathon, and the same board rewards a different plan for each player.
Everyone faces the same board. Every endless game deals its own deck, so no two players ever face the same decision. The daily is the opposite. When a friend clears today’s board a turn under par, you know exactly what they were up against, and you can argue about how they did it.
One shot gives it weight. Knowing you only get one real attempt makes you slow down and think about the first launch. Practice is there afterwards for the itch to try again, without taking anything away from the first try.
The boards are built, not rolled. Each day’s board starts from a curated library of layouts, paired with a set of rules for that day, then tuned so par is a fair target. Purely random boards tend to average out into the same board every day. We wanted each day to feel like its own problem.

Each row is one turn, filling in as the board falls, and a cleared board finishes with a green row. Your friends can see how you did without seeing how you did it, so nothing gets spoiled for anyone who hasn’t played yet.
Reminders, if you want them #
The first time you finish a daily, the game asks whether you’d like a reminder. If you say yes, you’ll get one notification at 6pm on a day you haven’t played yet, and never more than one a day. If you’ve already played, there’s no reminder. You can turn them off any time in Options.
Also in 2.0 #
- A new home screen, where you choose between today’s board and your endless game.
- Lots of new visual effects.
- Clear Column now lets you pick which column to clear.
- A warning on any block that’s about to reach the bottom.
The Daily Challenge needs an internet connection to fetch the day’s board. The endless game still plays offline, just like before.
